Executive Letter

At Kaiser Permanente, we believe everyone in the United States should have access to high-quality, affordable care and coverage.

We remain at the forefront of the movement to change from an industry that is based primarily on fixing health problems to one that is centered on helping Americans focus on prevention and achieve total health — mind, body and spirit.

Kaiser Permanente hospitals and health plans are consistently rated as some of the best in the nation with outstanding clinical, safety and member satisfaction scores. In 2015, we celebrated 70 years of providing access to high-quality and affordable health care. This was also a year of tremendous growth, during which our membership surpassed 10 million.

Even as we celebrate our past achievements, we must prepare for the future of health in America. As one example, in 2015 we announced our plans to open a new medical school that will redesign physician education. The Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine will focus on training physicians to provide high-quality care beyond traditional medical settings, emphasizing teamwork to inform treatment decisions, and addressing disparities in health.

We continue to embrace technology to bring our members innovative new ways to access our care and service. While the human touch and personal relationship remain at the heart of what we do, technology can help us deliver care in ways that maximize convenience for the many members we care for each day.

This past year has been a good one and we could not have reached this point without the hard work and dedication of our 186,000 employees and 18,600 physicians. They come to work each day to make lives better, putting the health and well-being of our members and communities at the center of everything they do.

We are honored that more than 10 million Americans entrust their care and coverage to us — and every day we dedicate ourselves to keeping their trust and delivering better health for all.
