Executive letter

At Kaiser Permanente, we believe in equal access to high-quality health care for everyone in the U.S. The country took a significant step in that direction in 2014, as more people obtained care and coverage, thanks in large measure to the broadening implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the opening of health care exchanges.

As we continue to deliver on our mission to provide high-quality, affordable care, we are honored and privileged that so many people have entrusted us to support their total health. Our membership grew to nearly 10 million members by the end of 2014 — and to more than 10 million in early 2015.

Kaiser Permanente is committed to being a trusted partner on our members' personal health journeys through all stages of life. With our 21st-century approach to health, we are using the latest research and technology to make the high-quality care we provide more connected, more convenient and more accessible — all with the goal of delivering greater value to our members, customers, the government and the communities we serve.

Kaiser Permanente continues to be widely known as a national and international leader in health care excellence, with exceptional clinical effectiveness scores, outstanding patient safety ratings and high-performing hospitals. We also ranked highest in satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates 2014 Member Health Plan Study.

These achievements reflect the tremendous work and dedication of our 177,000 employees and 18,000 physicians, who come to work every day to deliver better health for all — the essence of what Kaiser Permanente provides to our members and the communities we serve.

Quality

Kaiser Permanente exists to provide high-quality, affordable health care.

Our unique and integrated health care system allows our caregivers to make prevention a priority, and to make care decisions in partnership with our patients based on the latest evidence-based research. We know that prevention saves lives, and shared treatment decisions between patient and physician allow for the most individualized care possible. We also recognize that having some of the safest hospitals and highest quality health plans isn't enough without easy access to care when and how the patient needs it.
