Insured patients can often find themselves stuck with high bills after being treated at San Francisco General Hospital. San Francisco Mayor London Breed said that when she was in her 20s, she suffered a vertebrae fracture in Lake Tahoe, an area with no Kaiser Permanente hospitals. But because she was a Kaiser Permanente member, she was able to be treated at a local hospital and was only charged the regular co-pay. “That’s how it should be,” Breed said.
