ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group has named Pim Suwannarat, MD, chief of the Department of Genetics. The department provides genetic consultation for Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Dr. Suwannarat joins MAPMG from Kaiser Permanente Northern California, where she was part of the Genetics Department at the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Suwannarat trained in pediatrics at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children in Virginia and completed her training and board certification in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical Genetics at the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Suwannarat helped establish the cardiovascular genetics and neurogenetics clinics at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, in addition to participating in regional metabolic, craniofacial and neurofibromatosis clinics. She will see both adult and pediatric members and will support Kaiser Permanente genetic counselors in their role in prenatal and cancer genetics.
“I’m thrilled to join MAPMG and to provide care to Kaiser Permanente members in the Mid-Atlantic,” said Dr. Suwannarat. “Genetic testing and metabolic genetics allows us to figure out the DNA puzzle that makes us who we are. By performing genetic testing in appropriate situations, we’re better able to identify causes of disease along with heredity trends in families and to offer the best treatment plan available.”
