CLEVELAND — Kaiser Permanente Ohio was once again ranked as both the No. 1 Private (Commercial) and health plans in the state and as one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation (No. 10) Private (Commercial) and (No. 11) Medicare for 2013-2014 by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

NCQA is a national, private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality and a central figure in driving improvement throughout the health care system. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations.

Kaiser Permanente Ohio plans (Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Ohio) were rated among 405 Medicare and 484 Private health plans across the country that NCQA evaluated and ranked based on clinical performance, member satisfaction and quality processes.

Kaiser Permanente Ohio holds the NCQA “Excellent” accreditation rankings, the highest score available, for both its HMO and Medicare products, placing the organization among the best health plans in the nation in providing access and service, qualified providers, staying healthy, getting better and living with illness.

“Our focus on quality and prevention is transforming health care by keeping people healthier and preventing illnesses and diseases from occurring in the first place,” says Nabil Chehade, MD, president and executive medical director, Ohio Permanente Medical Group. “These rankings are a testament to the outstanding work our physicians, nurses and staff does on behalf of our patients each and every day.”

This is the second consecutive year Kaiser Permanente Ohio achieved a ranking of No. 1 in Commercial and Medicare plans in the state. The organization posted a substantive improvement in its national ranking, improving its position to 10th place from 38th place (Commercial) and 11th place from 16th place (Medicare).

“Our approach to delivering care that is coordinated, personalized and technologically advanced is a model for the nation,” Dr. Chehade says. “These rankings are much more than numbers. They represent human lives saved.”
