LOS ANGELES As part of our commitment to aid the most vulnerable individuals in the communities we serve, Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center will act as a deployment location during the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count — the largest homeless census in the nation –– on Thursday, Jan. 25.

In partnership with the Los Angeles Housing Services Authority, about 60 Kaiser Permanente employees, physicians and members, as well as local area residents will canvas the surrounding communities to count the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the West Los Angeles area.

“I felt like I was taking part in something that is very necessary,” said Cynthia Berry, a project manager at Kaiser Permanente, who took part in a previous Homeless Count event. “Living in this community, I’ve seen the number of homeless individuals increase, and I’m proud that we’re doing our part to help the individuals and families in our neighborhood.”

Last year’s count found that nearly 50,000 individuals are experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County, according to LAHSA. That represents an increase of nearly 7,000 from 2016.

“Individuals experiencing homelessness are among the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Celia Brugman, Community Benefit manager, Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center. “By identifying the number of individuals who are experiencing homelessness, we can advocate more effectively for their well-being and better understand how to allocate resources to improve their quality of life.”
