  REGIONS: Hawaii

HONOLULU — Get fit, have fun, be healthy, and join Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Silver&Fit program conveniently online at Kaiser Permanente pumps up fitness for Hawaii’s seniors by offering its Silver&Fit program providing benefits at no additional cost to Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Senior Advantage Plan members. Seniors can choose to receive a free membership from an extensive list of nearly 60 local participating fitness clubs — more than any other insurance carrier in Hawaii — including YMCAs, 24-Hour Fitness and Curves. These and other clubs will offer special activities and classes just for Silver&Fit seniors. Senior Advantage is the first Medicare Advantage plan in Hawaii to offer this benefit to members. Non-Kaiser Permanente Hawaii members can also join the Senior Advantage program and reap the benefits of Silver&Fit to begin reshaping their lives.

Because Kaiser Permanente Hawaii believes in total health, the Silver&Fit program also includes social events for Senior Advantage members and up-to-date health information with a complimentary subscription to The Silver Slate, a quarterly newspaper. A Healthy Aging Kit that contains 48 fitness classes on DVD is also available.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we don’t just treat problems, we are dedicated to seeing that our members, of all ages, thrive,” said Warren F. Wong, MD, a Kaiser Permanente physician board-certified in geriatrics. “That’s why we are excited about being the first in Hawaii to offer the Silver&Fit benefit, making it easier and more convenient for our Senior Advantage members to gain access to fitness clubs and exercise programs to strengthen their bodies and improve their health.”

For seniors who prefer to exercise at home, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii offers a Silver&Fit Home Fitness Program that includes handheld weights, exercise classes on DVD, and an exercise cord. Kaiser Permanente Hawaii also offers a Silver&Fit Walking Kit that includes a pedometer.

The current enrollment period for Senior Advantage individual and group plans lasts through Dec. 31, 2008. Senior Advantage Individual Plan members with Medicare Parts A and B may also apply for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Advantage Plus, which features a bundle of services including dental, vision and hearing benefits for an additional premium of $20 a month.
