HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by the Women’s Choice Award®. Presented by WomenCertified Inc., this evidence-based designation scored Moanalua Medical Center in the top 17 percent of 2,720 U.S. hospitals offering obstetrics.

The America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics distinction is awarded based on the following criteria: low rates of early elective deliveries; high patient safety rankings for reducing infection and complication rates; rankings above the national average for patient recommendation; and Baby-Friendly USA designation for advocating breastfeeding to new moms. Moanalua Medical Center became the first hospital in Hawaii to receive the Baby-Friendly Hospital designation in 1997 and continues to provide education and support to breastfeeding mothers.

Additionally, the Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center provides coordinated labor and delivery care in a safe and comfortable setting, facilitated by a team made up of the patient’s obstetrician-gynecologist, certified-nurse midwife, neonatologist and other care providers. Private delivery suites, mother-baby rooms, room service and labor aids, such as a birthing ball and hydrotherapy tub, create a personalized experience for new mothers and their families.

“We’re proud to receive this recognition, which speaks to our commitment to meeting the unique health needs of new and expecting mothers,” said Mabel Wong, MD, professional chief, ob-gyn; medical director, women’s health department of ob-gyn, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “In addition to our high-quality prenatal and maternity services, our Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center provides a safe and nurturing environment that puts both mother and child at the center of our patient experience.”

America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics combines national accreditations, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results and hospital outcome scores with primary research about women’s health care preferences. It is the only award recognizing excellence in obstetric services based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
