HONOLULU — The U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best Hospitals rankings named Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center a “high performing” hospital in heart failure treatment and colon cancer surgery. Moanalua Medical Center ranked in the top 20 percent, nationally, for its treatment of patients suffering from heart failure or requiring colon cancer surgery.

The Best Hospitals report, now in its 28th year, evaluated approximately 5,000 hospitals nationwide to measure their performance in high-volume procedures and conditions. Data measuring mortality rates, readmission rates, care-related infections, patient satisfaction scores and other indicators of quality care in patients 65 and older were gathered from a Medicare database, MedPAR. From these numbers, a rating of “high performing,” “average” or “below average” was given in each category.

“We’re proud of our specialty care providers and staff at Moanalua Medical Center, who focus on delivering high-quality, safe and effective care that puts our patients at the center of everything we do,” said Linda Puu, RN, vice president of Quality, Service and Safety, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “Additionally, an emphasis on preventive care helps improve the health of our patients suffering from or at high risk for developing common conditions such as heart failure and colon cancer.”
