HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center earned its sixth straight “A” grade in the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, administered by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit health care transparency advocate. The Hospital Safety Grade evaluates more than 2,500 hospitals twice every year and measures overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable medical errors.
“As medical care becomes increasingly complex, Kaiser Permanente remains a leader in developing and implementing robust safety systems to support the health care team in the hospital and across the care continuum,” said Karen Ching, MD, associate medical director of quality, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “This grade bears testament to the dedicated team of physicians and health care professionals who maintain their unwavering commitment to patient safety and well-being every day.”
The Hospital Safety Score utilizes hospital performance data collected by national health care organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Scores are calculated based on 27 types of publicly available hospital data related to patient care, medication errors and infection prevention, and released as a free resource to help patients and their families make informed health care decisions. Only 750 hospitals received an A grade in the Spring 2018 report.
“Our integrated electronic health record system allows our team of experienced physicians and staff to ensure patient safety at every step of the healing process,” said Linda Puu, RN, vice president of patient safety and experience at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “Our coordinated care approach allows us to provide the right treatment at the right time by putting the patient at the center of everything we do.”
