HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center earned an “A” grade in the Fall 2017 Hospital Safety Score, the health care industry standard for evaluating hospitals’ overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable medical errors. This is the fifth consecutive time Moanalua Medical Center has earned an “A” in the Hospital Safety Score, which is calculated by industry watchdog The Leapfrog Group.
The Hospital Safety Score utilizes hospital performance data collected by national health care organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The score is a free resource for patients and their families to help them make informed health care decisions. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated based on 28 types of publicly available hospital data related to patient care, medication errors and infection prevention.
“This grade is a tribute to the dedicated professionals who make safety their highest priority and work hard to ensure positive outcomes for every patient,” said Ray Hahn, regional chief operating officer and senior vice president Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “Caring providers plus our industry-leading electronic medical record system create the environment for excellent quality and safety.”
