HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Hawaii hosted a community workday at Queen Kaahumanu Elementary School today, bringing together volunteer employees, school staff, students and their families to work on campus improvement projects. The community workday is the seventh and final campus project completed this year as part of an ongoing initiative by Kaiser Permanente to support healthy learning environments by restoring and improving safety on school campuses.
Over 100 volunteers performed general maintenance on the campus, including painting, gardening and raking. Kaiser Permanente provided monetary support and lunch for volunteers.
“We’re excited to volunteer at Queen Kaahumanu Elementary for the third year in a row and grateful for the opportunity to give back so close to home, just a few blocks away from our Honolulu Medical Office,” said David Underriner, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, Hawaii Region. “Restoring this campus in the heart of Honolulu, where so many people pass by every day, makes a difference in the way students respect and appreciate their own learning environment.”
“During the busy holiday season, we’re reminded that it’s also the season of giving back,” said Cindy Yun-Kim, principal of Queen Kaahumanu Elementary School. “This is our third year teaming up with Kaiser Permanente and we appreciate their continued partnership as well as their donation of time and resources to our school community.”
