HONOLULU —  Parents, students, faculty and other volunteers gathered for a community workday at Queen Kaahumanu Elementary School today to help beautify the campus at the busy intersection of Beretania and Pensacola streets. The event, which drew nearly 200 volunteers, marks the second annual workday partnership between Queen Kaahumanu Elementary and sponsor Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

Volunteers participated in general yard maintenance and landscaping and planted new, maintenance-free plants in the school’s marquee planter box. Kaiser Permanente provided lunch and materials for the workday.

“Queen Kaahumanu Elementary is a close neighbor to our Honolulu Medical Office, located just a couple of blocks away. We’re grateful to have an opportunity to give back so close to home, and to work side by side with parents, keiki, teachers and staff on this project to beautify our community,” said David Tumilowicz, vice president of Communications, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

“During this season of giving, we’re thankful to Kaiser Permanente and its staff for graciously donating their time and resources. We look forward to future partnerships with them,” said Cindy Yun-Kim, principal of Queen Kaahumanu Elementary School.
