ANAHEIM, Calif. — Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center received Magnet® Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The honor was bestowed on the Orange County facility in recognition of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superior patient care.

With this credential, the Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center joins the global community of Magnet-recognized organizations. Just 477 U.S. health care organizations (out of more than 6,300 U.S. hospitals) have achieved Magnet recognition. Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center is the second Kaiser Permanente hospital to receive the honor, following Kaiser Permanente Irvine Medical Center’s designation in 2017.

“Magnet recognition is tangible evidence of our nurses’ commitment to the professional practice of nursing and to providing the very best care to our patients,” said Jerry Spicer, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, vice president of Regional Patient Care Services for Kaiser Permanente Southern California. “We are extremely proud of the distinction earned by our Anaheim nursing staff. This credential reflects the exceptional service our 23,000 Kaiser Permanente nurses provide every day in communities throughout Southern California.”

The ANCC describes its Magnet Recognition Program® as recognizing health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.

“Achieving Magnet status validates the teamwork of our nursing division by providing superior quality care through nurse engagement as evidenced by our patient satisfaction scores,” said Martha Dispoto, MA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, chief nurse executive at the Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center. “I respect and admire this incredible team and the support from our health care partners for this wonderful accomplishment.”

Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is a factor when the public judges health care organizations. U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.
