Get involved. Make a difference.
Our commitment to Total Community Health means reaching out far beyond our membership to improve the health of our communities. The need for a “total community” approach is more evident than ever. Volunteerism and community service are critical components of Kaiser Permanente’s approach to improving the health of all our communities.
Building healthy communities requires the heartfelt commitment and dedicated efforts of those who call these vital places home. From kids to teens to adults to retirees, Kaiser Permanente understands that everyone — including you — can make important contributions to any community’s health. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” We are committed to providing you the chance to do just that.
Our volunteer web site, KP Cares, provides links to hundreds of opportunities to match your skills and enthusiasms with the needs of people in communities where you work and live. It will also feature opportunities to get involved in KP-sponsored events and activities throughout the year.
Our areas of focus include:
Partnering with the Safety Net: Sharing our Services
Sharing our services, technology, and funding, while exchanging information on best medical practices to support community clinics, health departments, and public hospitals. Through these efforts, we help the people we serve in neighborhoods where the health care infrastructure has been severely compromised.
Social Determinants of Health: Supporting Health Spaces
Providing advocacy, accessibility, and increased independence for people with physical disabilities, including veterans and people displaced by hurricanes and other natural disasters. Our volunteers work with food banks, shelters, and other organizations to address poverty alleviation.
Environmental Stewardship: Developing Green Spaces
Building, renovating and maintaining parks, waterways and green spaces, to create safe places for recreation and gathering places for communities.
Children and Education: Strengthening Learning and Play Spaces
Helping kids grow strong and healthy by creating safe places to play and learn at underserved schools and recreation centers.
Please note: our volunteer database is available only to Kaiser Permanente physicians, employees, and retirees. You will need your NUID number as the password to log on to the volunteer site.
National Volunteer Recognition and Awards
The David Lawrence Community Service Awards are presented each year to recognize individuals and groups across the Kaiser Permanente regions who champion outstanding community benefit activities and initiatives demonstrating extraordinary efforts to improve the health of our communities.
