Safe Routes to School

At Kaiser Permanente, we believe good health belongs to everyone. That’s why we are asking you to join parents and children around the world in supporting International Walk to School Day.

Safe Routes to School is an international movement to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle or walk to school.

Today, approximately 33 percent of American children are now overweight or obese.  While individual motivation for behavior change is important, it’s critical that we structure our environments to make healthy behavior easy.  Safe Routes to School programs do exactly that by improving walking and biking conditions on routes to school, and enabling and encouraging children to use them.

Kaiser Permanente supports Safe Routes programs as part of our Healthy Eating Active Living initiative.
