HARBOR CITY, Calif. — Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center has received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This honor places the South Bay Medical Center among the top 5 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
“This is a tremendous acknowledgement of the hard work our physicians, staff and volunteers dedicate themselves to every day to provide Kaiser Permanente members with the highest quality care,” said Lesley Wille, RN, executive director of South Bay Medical Center. “A focus on safety and clinical excellence drives our efforts year-round, at every level of our organization.”
Analysis is based on the evaluation of risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications across at least 21 of the 30 most common inpatient conditions and procedures from 2010 to 2012. Patients at Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence were more likely to have successful health outcomes. If all hospitals performed at this level during the evaluation period, 156,036 lives could have potentially been saved.
The South Bay Medical Center received the following additional distinctions from Healthgrades in 2014:
- Joint Replacement Excellence Award ™
- Prostate Surgery Excellence Award ™
- Five-star rated for:
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Gallbladder removal surgery
- Hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Transurethral prostate resection surgery
This honor comes shortly after the California Office of the Patient Advocate’s Report Card, which gave Kaiser Permanente South Bay 4 stars, the highest rating possible, in both clinical performance and patient experience.
