HONOLULU Kaiser Permanente Hawaii received an overall 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for the third year in a row and is the only plan in the state to achieve the highest ranking. All Kaiser Permanente regions across the nation earned a 5-star rating for the 2014 plan year.

“This recognition reflects our physicians and care teams’ commitment to our senior patients’ broad range of health care needs,” said Dr. Geoffrey Sewell, president and executive medical director, Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. “From goal-setting for an active lifestyle to managing chronic conditions, it’s a privilege to support our patients every step of the way.”

Plans are rated on a 1- to 5-star scale, with 5 stars representing the highest rating and signifying the greatest ability to consistently deliver quality care and service to Medicare beneficiaries. The Medicare star quality rating overall scores are based on more than 50 care and service quality measures across nine categories, including staying healthy, managing chronic conditions, member satisfaction, customer service and pharmacy services.

“We’re honored to be the only health plan in the state to receive the highest possible rating of 5 stars and grateful to our physicians, nurses and care teams who provide coordinated, compassionate care and service to our members every day,” said Kaiser Permanente Hawaii President Janet Liang. “Hawaii’s kupuna deserve to have a 5-star health care organization such as Kaiser Permanente to meet their unique care needs.”

With this 5-star rating, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is able to participate in the 2014 5-star Special Enrollment Period for individual members and can enroll Hawaii seniors in top quality health plans from Dec. 8, 2013 through Nov. 30, 2014.
