DENVER — The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council named Kaiser Permanente Colorado “Corporation of the Year.” The award was announced Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Growth Through Partnership Conference in downtown Denver.
The council’s Corporation of the Year Award recognizes the corporation or government agency that has best shown its commitment to minority business development during the past year. To receive this honor, the corporation also has to be nominated by a certified minority business of the RMMSDC.
“Kaiser Permanente is pleased to receive this award as recognition of our commitment to supplier diversity,” said Clayton Mitchell, executive director of Kaiser Permanente National Facilities Services. “Utilizing diverse suppliers contributes to the economic health of our members and reflects the diversity of our Colorado region.”
Kaiser Permanente was recognized for this award based upon a number of factors including:
- Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to Minority Business Enterprises. In 2013, Kaiser Permanente invested $58.5 million in minority businesses in Colorado.
- Kaiser Permanente conducted community outreach seminars and vendor forums such as the Women’s Business Enterprise Council event, “Trailblazers: Women Entrepreneurs of the Next Generation,” to educate companies on opportunities available within the Colorado region as well as to assist potential vendors with strategies for assessing contract opportunities.
- Kaiser Permanente renewed emphasis on engagement with diversity affinity organizations such as RMMSDC, Hispanic Contractors of Colorado, National Association of Minority Contractors and other organizations with similar values.
- To further support diversity as a business imperative, Kaiser Permanente reviewed and adjusted policies and procedures to clearly define goals, expectations, requirements and methods of delivery when contracting with diverse firms.
The Growth Through Partnership Conference is an annual educational event attended by corporate members and minority businesses to discuss issues and trends driving minority business.
