Community Health Initiatives

Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Grants & Partnerships

Kaiser Permanente believes that creating healthy communities requires a wide variety of community-based prevention strategies as well as the support from a broad array of funders, advocates, policy experts, health practitioners and most importantly community residents. Partnership and collaboration help drive positive change in community environments by bringing together multiple sectors of society that must work together to create complicated and lasting change.

Our approach to community health has been cited as a national model by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Institute of Medicine.  Our work is also aligned with First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” Campaign to address childhood obesity. Kaiser Permanente plays a major support role to that effort through the Partnership for a Healthier America, an independent, non-partisan foundation we co-founded to support and sustain the aims of Let’s Move!

We also work closely with the Convergence Partnership, which we co-founded with other funders and partners, to accelerate and support multi-sector, equity-focused, place-based efforts to improve community health. We’re investing in community-based prevention through the HEAL Cities Campaign, which supports environmental and policy change efforts in over 170 cities in California, Colorado, Oregon, and the Washington D.C. metro area.
